I have bipolar and I am sick of it. Why don't ppl ever consider what it's like to have

I take medication. What works makes me gain weight and sometimes get sick. I still live with some depression, too. That is my life and I deal with it. Yes, I go to therapy as well.

Here ppl just tell others to stay away from ppl with bipolar because "those" ppl are trainwrecks. Most on medication aren't if you are so ignorant to not know otherwise. There seems to be no actual compassion here. What's more, ppl are individuals and that includes ppl with bipolar. Some have personality issues. That has nothing to do with bipolar disorder. (Related Q and A pops up every time I look at this section.)

It's bad enough dealing with this illness. The stereotyping is infuriating.

  1. I just posted a ? about bi-polar. I'm sorry you are going through this. My goal is to learn more about it so I can be a better source of support to my sister. I wish you the best!!!  :)

  2. From a close friend to you:

"I understand what you are saying. Bipolarity can lead to some scary and frustrating times. It took me a long time to get to the place where I understood who I was and what I had.

I got lucky with the medication. Lamictal has worked wonders in my life. Like most mental disorders, Bipolar can range from minor to severe. People who have no exposure to friends or loved one afflicted with the disorder can only go on the stories they hear. And those are mostly comprised of the extreme.

Sadly, I have chosen to tell very few people about my disorder. People just don't understand. It is not my place to make them see that medication and self-awareness can lead to a normal life for those with Bipolar Disorder.

Who and what you share with others is a personal choice. But Bipolar carries a stigma and you need to be prepared to deal with that.

I encourage you not to worry about what others think. This is a personal issue and one that you will deal with for the rest of your life.

Best of luck to you in all your endeavors. "

  3. It is unfair the people with mental illnesses are treated. There's nothing to do about it; you just have to remind yourself that there's a lot of ignorant people out there.

  4. I too am upset and know what your going though. I have a close personal friend who is bipolar and am upset becouse my parents refuse to let me take him on a trip becouse they feel he will not take his meds. While I know this is a precaution to be taken into consideration, I think it rather unfair.

But I've come to relize this is the way people think and the way they make themselves feel better about themselves.

Please try to not take any rude comments personally and understand that some of us do understand what your going though.

    Hope this helped!

  5. My mom is bipolar (but NOT on medication). So was my uncle, and my uncle accidentally OD'd on prescriptions drugs and is gone. So I do empathize with you. But the loved (or should I say, occasionally loved) ones of bipolar are individuals too. I put up with my mom's mood swings patiently but sometimes it gets to me. It's not that I want to leave my mom and run away. I want to run away from her illness.

Today my mom is going through an episode and is treating me like I crawled out from under a rock. There is no love, no affection. She cannot comprehend the sense of betrayal I feel.

  6. I am bi-polar too and I am depressed but nothing seams to help me! Its rude how people are and it makes some things worse!

  7. i have bipolar II we just gotta perservere
