I have booked a e-ticket for railway its waited list so can i board in train by using that if i can't board ?

before boarding the train check up your status 0n 139.Without confirmation of your seat you are liable to be pennalised minimum of Rs.250/=.So make sure before boarding the tain.

The best way is to find out your current position just 3 hours before departure, when chart is prepared. if you are still waitlisted, the e-ticket is not valid for travel in the train. You have to buy a general ticket in the ticket counter. Approach the TTE and request for a seat / berth. If available, he will allot you on payment of difference or you have to travel in the unreserved compartment. I had a similar experience. Waitlisted e-ticket is not valid for travel. From the originating / Destination you have to get a TDR, ticket deposit receipt (note down your PNR also), then approach IRCTC for refund of the W/L e-ticket. WL ticket is to be submitted immediately for refund at IRCTC along with TDR. I am giving below a mail from IRCTC for your reference:

go to the station(?) early get into a unreserved II class,occupy a seat and then see if your ticket is confirmed. otherwise travel by II class after getting the ticket endorsed as "no room"

You can board the train with wait listed ticket only in sleeper class & there is no such penalty. You can't board AC class with waiting listed ticket.

Wait listed passengers, who were not got confirmation or RAC are dropped out and in such case, they are not allowed boarding.

If you have to go there urgently, then the best possible scenario is to have 'Tatkal' ticket. It is chared at full fare from origin to destination plus Rs.150 per ticket irrespective of where you board and disembark. And no concessions are available on this ticket as well. Please call 139 to confirm availability of 'Tatkal' tickets on the train you want to board.

If you can, go to reservation centre for booking it as one unnecessarily pays service charges through e-ticket or i-ticket.
