... I need it to work with imovie and quicktime, is there a codec which will make it work?

    Copy the video data files from the camcorder's HDD to your Mac. Launch StreamClip. Convert the files from the camcorder to something iMovie likes... .mov, .mp4... then drag the converted files into the iMovie clips pane or timeline.
