i have just bought a car from auto trader, the car has came back as a cat c after i done a hpi check. my insurance has went through ok , but thats when i found out about its past.

the seller never told me it was cat c!!!!

it seems to be fixed to a nearly new standard but i feel cheated. i had nobody with me (big mistake) but the car drove perfectly .

is there anything i can do about the seller?

i know its my own stupid fault, but a little bit of justice would feel great

  1. Remember the old saying Buyer Beware!!   You should have done your due diligence before buying the car.    The owner should have been more honest, but of course not everyone is.

If the car drives perfect and you like the vehicle don't worry about it.  Just drive and enjoy the car.

You always could call the owner and talk calmly and openly and see if he will give you some of your money back.   You don't deserve all of it or to return the car as you are at fault also.

Helpful Hints--  dont yell at him/her.   Just let them know what you found out after you bought the car.   Explain why you think it is worth less than you paid (assuming you didn't  pay way under what a non cat-c car goes for).

If you get anything, good for you.  If not,  you learned and sit back and drive the car and forget about it!!!!  Life is to short to dwell on mistakes.

  2. cat c means the car was beyond economical repair. in other words it would have cost to much to fix it compared to the veicals value. so it was writen off by the insurance company. these cars can still be bought and repaired using second hand parts which makes it cheeper. as insurance must use new ones. the seller is not obliged by law to tell you of this unless you ask.

  3. Did you ask?  Did you check it before buying?  If it's fixed to nearly new standard, what's the problem?

  5. I think you have asked and answered your own question.

    Hard luck.

I do feel for people that get ripped of by car dealers.

You know what to do next time don't you.

I hope you have learned by your mistake.

  6. in law nothing but bricks brake glass, and it wouldent half make you feel better,

  7. You should have asked.

They didn't have to tell you.

Like you said, it's your own stupid fault.
