Question:

I have bought about 4 Layer chickens and now they are big and should be ready to lay eggs but .....?

I have yet to see any eggs I have given them all the right food and the right kind of nesting boxes should i be worried how do I get them to lay eggs

  2. My layers would slow right down over winter, maybe they are just waiting for spring!!

    Also have you thought of putting placebo's in the nest to encourage them along?

Chickens dont need a rooster to lay eggs (the rooster is only if you want chicks).Chickens need to be 4-6 months old to start laying eggs.They need atleast 14 hours of light a day.Most of the time chickens wont lay eggs while they are molting(white flakes falling out near feathers).Sometime,if the nest box is on the ground,they might lay eggs behind it (My hens did that to me when they started laying).Hope this helps you!

  4. if the top of their head is red than it means that they can start laying eggs any time but if it doesn't have a red head than they are still chicks they normally don't start laying eggs until they are at least three months old but it could take longer depending on the chicken type.
