Ok so I;ve had braces for the past 6months. I really messed up the first 4months because I wouldn't floss, just brush. Now I see it's a big mistake! So 2months ago a big bump grew on my gums, I was scared! I went to the periodontist& he just prescribed me a mouthwash&gave me a cleaning. Now, I floss, but it seems like on my lower teeth I show more gums, like my gums r touching the botttom of my braquet.&My upper teeth seem to be separating from the gums! I' scared! I hope I don't need surgery.&I don't wanna loose my teeth! Please tell me if u've had any experience with this!!

  1. Thats all normal, you won't need surgery. Thats just your teeth getting straighter, I never flossed and still don't and I'm on my 2nd year of braces, something I would recomend though is a special brush with disposable tips, the tips are kind of like pipecleaners but they're made for braces to get in between your teeth and the wires and you can get everything out of there.

  2. i think youll be okay...im guessing you have abit of ginigivitis. cause you havent been flossing and they prescribed some sort of mouthwash to you...so just make sure you keep flossing and using the rinse

dont be alarmed by your gums on your bottom row...actually after rereading this im very confident in saying this is ginigivits. i had this same problem with braces. it looked the same for me. this happened because although i brushed (somtimes i also skipped out on the flossing) the gums on my bottom row jsut got swollen and iriitated from the braces and the metal....because i wasnt flossing i wasnt getting rid of the food that gets between your teeth and can cause bacteria to grow.

    you wont need surgery!

like i said, keep flossing and using the rinse. i always also prescribed this fancy mouthwash but it was so expensive!

you can try this other mouthwash that you can get form your drugstore, without a prescription called sterisol. itll do the same thing but for a much lwoer price! its also great for treating ulcers

your gums will get better when your braces come off...because then youll actually be able to brush properly and stuff. my gums were swollen for the entire time i had braces. dont owrry about it too much, but make sure you are taking care of your mouth!

  3. I had braces for 8 years

and yes it is normal.. Your gums are just irritated.

Make sure you floss, brush, and rinse at least twice a day.
