  1. why would u want to heat your pool if u want warm water draw a bath

  2. on a 12 foot pool they make it warmer for banging your head on the other side

  3. Have you thought about going solar, much cheaper in the long run. Found this read:

Solar Heating- Solar heating systems are composed of solar thermal collectors, a fluid system to move the heat to its point of usage, and a reservoir for heat storage. The systems may be used to heat domestic hot water, swimming pool water, or for space heating. If you live in the southern half of the United States or in an equally sunny area you could potentially save between 50% and 80% on your water heating by implementing a solar hot water heater. The initial cost is hefty, but depending on how you use it, the system may pay for itself in as little as five years. The return is greater when you factor in rebates and incentives offered by states and local governments.

  4. No offense meant at all, but heating a pool might depend on where you're located. If you lived here in South wesy FL, you'd find pool water is like bath water.

It would also depend on how early in any year you want to OPEN a pool, and since you don't detail what the 12 ft. relates to, I'll assume not a DEPTH.

I'm an e bay shopper, and for many reasons, both OK and disappointing. Without knowing at all, the Heater you're talking about (You could have included that link in your details ans again without knowing NEW/USED ,,,and whether or not your pool is 12 ft. Diam, and 3 ft deep??? Etc, I suspect none of us can give you a realistic answer.

I want to assume also that where you live, the SUN shines sometime? It may be that your issue is for NIGHT swimming? It may be that you live in Anchorage???

Is it WORTH BUYING,,, in a general sense, to have my pool heated??? OR might your question relate more to, IS IT WORTH IT, in some comfort level you feel most OK with in the sense of a pool being refreshing, or more like a Hot Tub???

  5. Just bear in mind that it's an awful lot of water to heat up sufficiently to make a noticeable difference - your electricity meter will be going supersonic.  The other thing, of course, is that you don't know the quality or safety condition of anything you get off e-bay; it might be quite okay, or it might be downright lethal, especially if it's second-hand.

A cover might be more useful, you can take it off during the day so the water absorbs some heat from the sun and cover it at night to help retain that heat.

  6. Hi. I assume you have bought one of the 'easy up' pools from Argos or similar?

I bought one of these complete with a heater and filter as a friend had one a couple of years ago. The usual size for the heaters is 3kw. During the best warm bit of the great British Summer so far, i turned it on maximum for 3 days (thurs-sat) ready for a family barby on sunday. This achieved a temperature rise of 10 degrees C, from 15 to 25. This was still 'cold' feeling though. A 3kw heater is the same output as a standard 3 bar electric fire in your living room!

What my 'friend' neglected to remind me was that his bill went up £250 for the quarter! There are approx 5000lt of water in a 12' x 3' pool and that takes a lot of heating up. As the water heats up, the chlorine 'gases off' so you use more chemicals. See how much it will cost you in water too(if you are on a meter). You will have to watch the chemical balance carefully to keep the same water in for the season!

I am toying with the idea of installing a solar panel on a south facing wall to assist.

We live in (fairly) sunny Essex so it may work.

    Best of luck!
