  1. In art circles (regarding paint) brown is considered dark orange.  As such, some browns lean to a yellowish brown, others to reddish.  Pure orange is one of the three secondary colors on the color wheel, the other two being green and violet.  If you look at a color wheel, you will see that these color form a triangle.  Red-orange and yellow-orange are tertiary colors.  Secondary and tertiary colors go well together.  Therefore, reddish brown pairs well with yellow-green and blue violet.  Yellowish brown pairs well with blue-green and red-violet.  I myself could not go along with violet carpeting of any kind -- but both violet and orange accents would be great.  That leaves some kind of green carpeting (depending on your color of brown) as a good, easy-to-deal-with companion.

If your tiles are very light brown, perhaps tan, I would suggest a fairly deep green for contrast.  If tiles are a very deep brown, a pale green would be better.  If you have a mid-intensity brown, avoid a mid-intensity green.  Some contrast is needed.  With a medium intensity brown, I would probably prefer a pale green because I dislike a dark room...and because furniture may add even more brown.  That becomes a personal decision.

White walls are wonderful.  They serve as a clean canvass, ready to accept anything the rest of the room likes.

  2. White walls, I always liked a tan carpet with white walls but everyones taste is different.

  3. Go for a off white color like a light cream.I'm sure you can get samples of carpets from any carpet retailer.
