It has an nVIDIA NF790i ULTRA SLI motherboard and 2 SATA hard drives but it will not recognize my cd drive or my USB keyboard. I am at a stand still and I need help quickly. Thanks in advance!

  1. Make sure you plug the keyboard into one of the USB slots that is built directly on the back of the motherboard and also, as a test, remove all other USB devices that are not vital.

You may have to go into the BIOS settings to make sure those components are recognized if that doesn't work.

[update] If you can't get the keyboard or drive recognized at the BIOS setup, you've got no chance of it working anywhere else. Your USB keyboard should work in BIOS without anything being installed or configured. Is it a straight wired keyboard or a wireless type?

Maybe your USB ports are disabled? Also SATA setups in BIOS are not always straight-forward. If you have a motherboard manual, read the BIOS options carefully.

As the other guy suggested, perhaps the CD that came with the MB has something on it you need.

  2. Make sure your CD drive is set on the proper IDE/SATA channel and set to master if it's the opnly one on the IDE channel. Go into the BIOS and if it doesn't recognize it then try getting a new CD drive from your local shop and see if it was a bad drive.

  3. Sounds like you need the drivers from the CD that came with the motherboard.

You will need a working CD player to do this - so install the IDE Sony drive for now. Then install the drivers from the CD (USB, ethernet, sound, etc.). Then you should be ready to roll.
