I have constructed an in ground swimming pool of size 20 x 10 x 5' deep without carrying out plumbing for bottom drainage/ skimmer for filteration & re-circulation of water. I have built this pool adjacent to an existing out door water fountain giving a cascading effect for re-circulation of water.

I need guidance to provide filter etc. I propose to use canvas/polyester filter for filteration with cleanout window for cleaning. Can somebody guide me?

  1. You made no provision for suction or returns at all???? How are you planning on circulation? Were you thinking of using the overflow from your "fountain, to spill over into the pool and then use an over flow from the pool to a reservoir to use as your suction point? I can tell you right now, that pool is going to be difficult to keep clean and there will be circulation dead spots if that is your intent. Vanishing edge pools ( what I just described) need proper planning to construct. I also  assume this is a concrete pool? Time to get out a core drill and concrete saw. You should have plumbed both a skimmer and returns prior to shooting or forming the 'crete. Even most properly planned out vanishing edge pool will have a skimmer. You need a suction hook up to vac the pool!!

Not having a main drain if this is concrete can prove to be an issue as well. You need to have a hydrostatic valve down there at the very least. It needn't have an actual suction though. That hydro allows ground water pressure to equalize with the pressure the pool exerts on the ground. Not having one and if that area has a water table, can actually raise your pool out of the ground if the water table is high enough or you drain the pool out for repairs. Concrete can float. Google ferro cement boats for example. That's essentially what a concrete in ground pool is. A ferro cement boat. I've seen no less than three pools that have popped out of the ground, never evenly either. One came out 2 feet in the deep end.

I think, before you spend any more money, you need to sit down and think about how you're going to provide that pool with surface skimming action and returns, before you think about filtration equipment.
