I have checked and DMA is on as well. It didn't slow down gradually over time. It just all of a sudden went from 15 minute burns to 1 hour burns. I'm trying to figure out how to get it back to normal.

  1. Are you using the same brand(s) of blank DVD media or did you start using something new. The most common cause of this kind of problem is unsupported media. Normally the burner is supposed to recognize the media it's burning to and make adjustments to the laser intensity and burn rates. When it fails to do so, it may reduce burn speed all the way to 1x burn which takes over an hour to complete. Low quality media may not be recognized by the burner.

Make sure your drive's lens is dust and smudge-free. If you have Nero Express or Nero Burning Rom you can test the read speeds using some of your old media...Nero will increase the data read rate during the test until it reaches max rate for each media type you test - DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-Rom etc. If the read test works fine when testing using media that was burned without issues in the past, then the problem is likely to be the blank media you are using. If you get sub-optimal read speeds for media that burned fine, the problem lies with either the lens or the data transfer settings.

  2. If you never defragmented your drive, maybe now is a good time. Windows hard drives get fragmented over time and performance decreases. If you removed a lot of data recently, it might have just worsened the situation. Do a defrag and follow it up with a spyware test (spybot search and destroy). Goto http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Defragmenta... for more about disk fragmentation.

  3. Defrag your drive.  I get good results with defraggler

  4. Just install Nero.

  5. Well, when you cleared your hard drive,it could have deleted something that helps the burner like a driver or something.I don't know,I'm just guessing.

  6. it might be a virus or u might have deleted a program that made it faster. get it checked by someone at the place u bought it thats what i did
