  1. Unfortunately, Yes it most likely is coming from your back. What you are feeling is probably your sciatic nerve. When the sciatic nerve is compromised it almost always causes displaced pain somewhere along its path.

The most likely scenario is that you have a herniated or bulging disk in your lower lumbar area. When this happens it presses on the sciatic nerve and can cause extreme pain anywhere from the middle of your back to your big toes.

The Sciatic Nerve runs both ways from the middle of your back across to your hips, down the hip and thigh to the side of your knees and across the shin heading for your big toes.

It usually is a stabbing, jolting or burning pain and may not hurt constantly at first, but without care will likely worsen with time as opposed to it healing.

If I may, I would like to warn you against suggestions to see a Chiropractor for this type of situation. Although I am sure that their are some very good Chiropractors out there, it is very dangerous to risk your treatment to one. I cannot tell you how many patients I have sat in physical therapy with who were there due to chiropractc injuries.

Please, only see one if you are recommended by a General Practioner who has read your MRI. MRI's are the only way to detect this injury as it is a soft tissue injury.

    Best of luck to you
