Its always better to travel with max time to expiry of passport. Though you can travel now but get it renewed in Canada but I would recommend do it in india and then travel.

you must have a valid passport

even if you will be living in Canada as a permanent resident you cant get a Canadian passport unless you become a citizen which takes years, so you may as well renew your Indian passport before you come to Canada
