  1. All of the photographers I know in Central Florida keep silica gel packets in their bags. It's very humid here and rains almost every day in the summer time. Yes, it's okay. Necessary? That depends on your climate.  


  2. Unless you are living in a very humid area, the Silica gel packets are not necessary.

  3. The silica absorbs humidity so it should be fine...no harm done

  4. As Ace said, depending on where you live, it may not be necessary, but it sure can't hurt anything either. Even in a normally dry climate, if you take the camera out on a rainy or cold day, then return to a warm house, there can be condensation, and it can occur where you don't see it. So there is certainly no harm in keeping the packets in your bag for reassurance.
