I have chain that is alittle rusted and is causing a noise while i ride.?

i have a 03 yamaha 600r with a 52t sprocket. now there is a certain area where the chain gets tight. the chain is a bit rusted . now it makes a noise everytime the chain goes through that spot that is rusted. im wondering why is it that the chain get tighter and if i soak it with wd-40 wil that fix the problem. if i leave the chain a bit loose it fixes the problem alittle bit. any suggestions.

  1. Soak the chain in WD-40. Clean it. Make a habit of cleaning & lubing your chain regularly to prevent rust. It's now weakened & you run a risk of the chain breaking. Dont keep it loose.


  2. Wire brush the chain, then soak the chain in penetrate oil, such as WD-40.  Work the links until they move freely without too much pressure. Then wipe the chain and soak in engine oil, wipe clean again, then use some chain grease.

    Keep your chain well oiled and adjust the chain tension as specified or if you do not know the tension, it should have a travel up and down (along the longest run (normally the top) of about half an inch either side of the normal.
