I have chosen FC Porto because they are one of the top clubs in Europe, says Eliaquim Mangala
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 was not because of money but the club’s reputation as one of the biggest in Europe. The former Namur man became the latest player to sign for the Dragons this summer after the side acquired him
in a €13 million deal.
Upon completing his switch to Estadio do Dragao, Mangala revealed that although he had received an offer from Lisbon-based side Benfica, he had already made up his mind of joining FC Porto and did not hesitate to commit his future to the club.
“Benfica expressed an interest in me, but I had already decided and wanted to play at FC Porto.” The former Standard Liege man was quoted as saying.
Mangala, 20 years of age, then explained his decision and said that the Portuguese champions were among the best sides on the continent, as they not only won the Primeira Liga but have also hoisted a multitude of trophies in Europe over the years.
"I have chosen FC Porto because it is a top club in Europe, and as seen in recent years with the amount of titles they have won, like the Europa League last year and the Champions League with Mourinho.” Mangala added.
Mangala also said that while he was looking forward to plying his trade with Porto, he would first have to perform in training in order to be considered for first-team duty.
“I hope to play, but not for me. I have to integrate into the group and then soon see,” he concluded.
Although the French International is an expensive gamble by the Dragons, he is likely to be sparingly used over the course of the season due to the great partnership formed by Nicolas Otamendi and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rolando-c31583 in the centre of the backline.
