Question:

I have chosen which Subwoofer, but now what amp and box?

I have decided on a ten inch Alpine Type R Subwoofer. That was the easy part I think...

I only listen to hard rock so from what I've been told a closed box would work best. If you can provide some quick links that would also help greatly.

I need to decide on a good box that fits well with my subwoofer that I chose. I am trying to spend as little money as possible, but I still want quality and value. I would also like the box to have the amp hooked up on it. I'm really not sure if that is the norm..

So, what amp and box should I choose? Remember...value!

Thank you! I really appreciate it!

  1. Just because you listen to rock does not mean that you need to have a sealed box. S sealed box gives a punchy bass sound, Ported/Vented gives you the boomy bass sound.

Any amp that is CEA-2006 compliant will be sufficent.

  2. George is an a sshole. He is right, get an amp thats CEA-compliant.One that matches the total RMS power of the Type R...I beleive they are 500 watts RMS.Make sure the amp is rated at 500 watts at whatever ohm the sub is going to be running at.Example...If its a DUAL voice coil 4 ohm sub, then you would preferbably get an amp that is 500 watts @ 2 ohms.I will post you a link that will show in detail how to wire different ohm/impedances to amps.

As far as the box goes....George is partly right. It doesnt matter ONLY if the box is custom built or should I say customed tuned for "rock" type music. So since this is not and option, then a sealed box would be your best choice...around 1 cubic ft for that punchy bass...It works well with rock. The are a dime a dozen on ebay and real cheap.Keep in mind alot of them are CHEAPLY made so I will give you a link to a friend/contact of mine who has his own shop and builds custom boxes. He will be able to give you the recommended box and possibly where to get one.

Here is a link for wiring subs to amps...just click on "woofer wiring wizard"...its a very helpful sight

And in my source area I posted a link to his website...he even has a Box picture gallery if you want to browse at his work.

Feel free to email me anytime.I love to help people.People like George are not here to help people...only to ridicule and make them feel stupid.
