  1. There can be dozens of reasons why.  Have you contacted Comcast to have them troubleshoot?

Part of your monthly fee goes to Free Tech Support.  If your service doesn't work all the time and you don't report the issue to them.. then how can they fix it?

    OK,  sorry for the lecture

1st off.. make sure your homepage is set to an actual homepage.. sometimes a setting gets reset and your homepage might get set to something weird.  Try www.google.com

2nd Try a different browser,  Try opening IE.  Maybe its a problem with Firefox.

3rd Power cycle both your comcast modem and your router... see if the issue goes away.  You should only have to do this once a month..more then that signals a problem and you know where to report problems based on my lecture (see above)

4th Try sending an echo to your computer's router and then to comcast, then to another site, etc.  Testing which part of the process fails. An echo, similar to naval terminology is called a "ping"

Click on Start button, then Run, then type in cmd and hit ENTER

type in ipconfig /all and then ENTER

write down the numbers under DNS and Default gateway entry.

Type in ping 127.0.0.1 and hit ENTER -- if your requests times out then the problem is your Computer not comcast.

Type in ping [default gateway] and hit ENTER, where [] is replaced with the numbers listed for default gateway, example 192.168.0.1

A Timeout HERE means your router or Cable modem is to blame.

Type in ping [DNS server] and hit ENTER, where [] is replaced with the numbers listed for DNS, example 168.237.168.1

A Timeout here means the issue is on Comcast's side and you need to contact them.

THe next test only works if your DNS server responded with something other then "request timed out"  Type in ping altavista.com and hit ENTER, A Timeout here means the issue is on Comcast's side and you need to contact them.

If the issues aren't on Comcast's side... then try running a Spyware search on your PC.  For this I recommend "Spyware Search n Destroy"
