Almost a year ago, Benzema was faced with a fair amount of criticism for his lack of goal scoring. The Frenchman had failed to perform as well as it was hoped of him in the first half of the last season.
Last December presented tough times for Madrid, when due to Higuain’s injury, they were left with Benzema as their only striker. It was then that the forward faced a lot of pressure. Even Jose Mourinho was uncertain of the situation, so much so that he called

However, Mourinho was very positive about the fact that the former Lyon forward would perform if given the right opportunity. He was right; amazingly, the 24-year-old has shown tremendous improvement since then.

"I'm fine mentally. I have confidence and I like it here. Every day I strive to improv and everything will get better. I'm enjoying it now. I've forgotten the physical problems and now I have more continuity in my game."
