To obtain sound from HDTV via CSS, I am using a scart lead as sound is not transferring to CSS via a HDMI cable. However, I thought a HDMI cable would transfer picture and sound!!! Where am I going wrong?

  1. Firstly your set up. hdmi from dvd player to surround system. then hdmi to hdtv.--

Dvd output sound settings out via hdmi set to bitstream- 5.1 etc. -

Surround system input sound set to auto.

It sound like your trying to get sound from your hdtv to surround system. this wont work as your tv wont output sound via the hdmi cable. sound only output via rca phono output if your tv has this.  Hope this is clear to understand. best of luck --carl.

  2. it does, but your telly is expecting a signal IN, not broadcasting it OUT. You may be able to change the settings, but i think you may have to get an HDMI splitter to feed the telly and the CSS from your DVD/Sky box or whatever.

  3. DVD player to surround receiver to TV via HDMI?  Most surround receivers offer only HDMI "passthrough."  They are designed only to provide video switching between digital video devices.

  4. Most of the time, audio via HDMI is not a default.  Check audio out settings in your source device.
