Question:

I have contacts, how long can I leave them in?

I have proclear contacts. I'm supposed to take them out everynight, they are only daily wear ones. But I replace the set of contacts I've been wearing every month. My older brother has had lots of use with contacts, and told me I could leave them in all week and as long as they didn't bother me I'd be fine. Personal experience from any of you? It should be fine to leave them in all week and just take them out on the weekends as long as they don't bother me, right?

  1. No if it is dailies lenses, then take it out everday. Monthly wise, remove ever nite and replace them every month. Overnite lenses are called silicone lenses. they are suitable for overnite wear but not often. Do check with the eye doc

  2. No, it isn't 'just fine'- you could give yourself a scratch, a whole dang set of erosions (which borders somewhere between childbirth and 20 gunshot wounds in it's level if pain) or a sight-compromising infection.

It takes 5 minutes to take out and clean your contacts. It takes 1 single 'opps I fell asleep' to damage your eyesight forever.

  3. If they are daily wear, then they need to be taken out by the end of the day and not left in over night.  Daily wear is not meant to be left in overnight, and it is possible to cause damage if done so. Only extended wear contacts are meant to be left in the eye, though in some cases a doctor may advise even these be taken out every day.

  4. Personally, I take my contacts out everynight.  My eyes get really stressed when I leave them in overnight.  Its probably better for your eyes to take them out at night.

  5. it should say on the box......
