I have cord problems with my bass guitar

the other day i went to play my bass and it wouldnt work on the amp, i tried several amps and it didnt work, so i had to buy a new cord and i tried it at the store to make sure it was the cord and nothing else. it worked at the store then i brought it home, played for a bit and an hour later when i went to play again it wasnt working (the new cord). what is the problem?

  1. Pooryor is probably right - it sounds to me like the input jack.

    Remove the screws carefully and examine the wiring - one may be loose or broken away from the solder. Also, tighten the nut on the inside.

    Re-solder the points and there's a good chance that your problem will be history.


  2. sounds like a short in the input of the guitar.

It may not be the cord.  Could be the input jack on the bass.  You said you tried several amps and it still didn't work.  Would be kind of strange to find that many amps all at once that didnt work!  If you can.. plug another bass into your amp with the same cord and see what happens. If it plays, plug yours back in. If it doesnt work, then chances are thats the problem.  If 2 basses wont work using the same cord, take it back, as most cords come with a warranty.  They should just swap it out.  Might also be a good idea if you have several cords to get some form of cable tester.  You can check mic cables, rca, 1/4-1/4 inch, as well as midi cables on these. Behringer makes one for about 30 bucks, and they are great to have.
