I have counted the number and is 1 down 4 up. The frame is a 1991 cbr and i was told the motor was 1998.?

Is it possible the motor is from a different manufacturer?

i severly doubt it ,even swaping motors thru that many year differents seems unlikely even from cbr to cbr,1991 shows 6 speed also sounds like tranny issues,motor should have a vin number on it somewhere that will identify what it is

All CBR600s from the 87 hurricane thru the current RRs are 6 speeds. No different manufacturers. There is something broken in your motor if it has 5 speed. Have you ridden the bike? If you're just clicking a motor that has never run, it wont necessarily shift all the way up w/o the transmission (chain) moving.
