I have cracked valve stems...will cutting them work?

Long story short, 2 valves got bent, and when they bent, they cracked the valve guides at the bottom.

Can I extract the guides and cut off the cracked portion and re-use them?

  1. get new ones just to be on the safe side i think

  2. No,you will need to replace them or you'll be back where you started with new bent valves.

  3. i would also have the head checked,if the guides cracked it may have damaged the head as well

  4. If you get the guides out, than replace them. I suggest before you pull them out just grind the cracked parts off and slide the new valves in, check for lateral play, compare with the undamaged ones. If it looks fairly close, you will be fine. Excessive play means you need to replace. Most of the time when they port the intake runners they grind off the guide tips anyway.

  5. Get new ones

  6. get new ones. not only are the old guides cracked but they are misshapen (out of round) and will leak oil into the cylinder. not a quick fix

  7. No.  you basically have to take the tires off the rim and replace them.

    Good Luck...
