Question:

I have created a new chess piece. How can I introduce it into the (chess) game world?

I have delevolped a new chess piece. Actually two, but right now I'm focused on this one. It's a royal piece I call the Prince. I also have the Princess, but that's a different story. If anyone is interested I'll explain how the Prince moves, and like his parents, the King and Queen, the Prince has some special attributes. The alternating 64 colored squares can still be used. I'd like to get my idea out into the chess world. Any suggestions?

  1. well, if you have a good idea, then some board companies will want to hear about it. there are always looking for different new games to market people.......

i think that you need to self-promote your own idea or get a patent for the game for your new chess pieces. a patent guarenteeds that no one will be able to get your pieces or your ideas. you can create a new game and sell it.

    good luck.

  2. Like others have said chess has been around for centuries and would be very hard to chnage the game after all this time.

HOWEVER THE QUEEN DID NOT ALWAYS EXIST IN A CHESS GAME.  When it was first introduced some called it the 'Mad Queen Version' but now it has enhanced the game considerably.  It would be very hard but i guess all things are possible.  All the best

  3. you're not going to change the game

  4. There are many chess variants right now and none has replaced the basic version we have had for the last 150 years.  I personally have the game Nightmare Chess which is a combination of cards and the regular board and pieces.  Cards change the movement of the pieces and other rules.  Included in this version of the game is the Prince.  I am not telling you this to pour cold water on your creativity, but rather to let you know that as of today the game is fixed and although there are many new options for expanding both the board size and adding new pieces nothing as of yet has caught on.

  5. An Idea is an Idea, but I agree with everyone else that chess can not be changed but dont forget you can make your own game with you own pieces etc. This is called a variant, objective may be changed, like instead getting mate you want to do something else etc.

  6. you could try but chess is a classic game that has been around for centuries. You won't be able to change it like that but you can if you want.

  7. Post your game variation in the rec.games.chess newsgroup.  There, tens of thousands of people will eventually see it.  The group is archived, so your post will be available forever.

    P.S.  Sounds interesting.

  8. you could make a new game.perhaps chess 2.

  9. YOU CAN'T CHANGE CHESS it is complicated enough already!

  10. let the person know that you are presented a new piece to the chess game on the on line game world.

  11. I recommend posting the variant on www.boardgamegeek.com.

The "Queen".. prior to the 15th century.. used to move one space diagonally.. so while I agree the game is likely NOT to see another evolution.. it's not impossible.

  12. Check this web site to see if you have reinvented the wheel: http://www.chessvariants.com/alphabet.ht... If your variant isn't aleady listed, this would be the place to post it! It's your move!

  13. chess has been around since the beginning of time no one is going to accept your new piece... maybe try making more pieces and a new board and try and re work the game...

  14. Yes, chess has been around for a long time and you aren't going to change the core game. I think you probably already know that. Since you've had the notion to come up with some new pieces then you're probably aware (unlike most of the people who seem to be posting responses here) that there are LOTS of chess variants out there. Bravo to you for throwing your hat in the ring.

I don't know much about the chess community. But if you go to

    http://boardgamegeek.com

and look up chess, there is a place there for you to post your variant. You can probably get people to playtest it and give you feedback.

    Also:

    http://www.chess.com

seems to be a big online chess community and they have some variants listed there as well.

    Good luck!
