I have diabetes and love gravies.........how to make gravy that goes over biscuits?

  1. my aunt wrote a cookbook, she has cancer, and she tries to eat as healthy as possible, she has a whole section on gravies.

    Ingredients

    1/2 cup finely chopped onion

    1/2 cup finely chopped fresh mushroom

    2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

    2 cups reduced-sodium fat-free beef broth or reduced-sodium fat-free chicken broth, divided

    2 tablespoons cornstarch

    1 pinch pepper

    Directions

    1.In a saucepan, saute onion, mushrooms and parsley in ¼ cup broth until vegetables are tender.

    2.Combine cornstarch, pepper, and ½ cup of broth; stir until smooth.

    3.Add to pan with the remaining broth.

    4.Bring to a boil, stirring occasionally; boil for 2 minutes.

  2. In the grocery store they have packs of white gravy & brown gravy that is soooo good and all you have to do is add water.  With the white gravy I chop up ground sausage and make gravy biscuits and it is great!!

  3. There are so many different varieties of gravy out there that it really depends on what you are looking for in particular.

    By you using the term "biscuit" to describe a bread and not a cookie, I'm guessing you are at least somewhat familiar with southern food.

    If that is the case, I would reccomend a milk gravy or even sausage gravy. Both of these are easy to make.

    For milk gravy, put a tablespoon or two of oil in a skillet and heat it. Add 1/4 cup flour, dash of salt and dash of pepper (you may omit these if you like), and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until the flour is browned.

    Once browned, slowly add a cup and a half to two cups of milk and cook, stirring constantly over medium to medium low heat, until thickened and the flour has dissolved well into the milk.

    To make sausage gravy, simply cook your sausage in a skillet and once done, remove and use the sausage drippings in place of your oil. Then do the above steps. When gravy is ready, crumple up some sausage and stir into it.
