I have dominoes that go up to 12 dots. How many should be in the set?

It's a big set of dominoes and 2 yr old got at it. And i wanted to count and see if i have them all. The highest number on the dominoes is 12

  1. Assuming that there's a domino for every possible combination, it'd be 144 (if there are no 'blank' values) or 169 (if there are).


  2. For a set of double 12's dominoes, there should be 91 dominoes in total.

    Easy math on it is to look at the set.

    There are thirteen "zero" tiles (double zero to 12-zero)

    There are 12 one tiles (since zero-1 was counted in the first set)

    11 2's, 10 3's, etc.  So, in total you have -

    13+12+11+10+9+8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1 = 91

    Ok, each domino side has a number of dots between zero and six, for seven possible numbers. So, starting with zero, you have seven dominoes in the one set (0/0, 0/1, 0/2, 0/3, 0/4, 0/5, 0/6). The second set would yield the same (1/0, 1/1, 1/2, 1/3, 1/4, 1/5, 1/6), but there is a duplicate in 0/1 and 1/0 and there are not duplicates in dominoes, so the one's set has six total. Each progressive set would follow the same pattern, so your subtotals would be zero (7), one (6), two (5), three (4), four (3), five (2) and six(1). Add them up. Grand total is 28.
