I have downloaded sims 2 stuff off of the internet but it shows up as an adobe reader file. How do i fix it?

I have downloaded clothes and beds and things for the sims2 and it shows as an adobe reader file. How do I make it so when i turn the sims on i can use these things in the game. Also, when I try to open the file as an adobe reader thing, it doesn't open. It says, "File cannot be found." So please help me!!!

  1. Those stuff that you download for sims 2, if it opens up in adobe reader, you have to change the format its using, those stuff that you downloaded for sims 2, its opening up in adobe reader. you can change the Format, right click on those files, and click on send to:

and choose the Right program that it needs to be open, is it a txt file?

then it needs to be opened in notepad or wordpad.

  2. The files showing up looking like Adobe Reader files could be because what ever the "file type" you are downloading (ex. .jpg) that type of file is associated with Adobe.

Now when you download items for Sims, they usually are .zip files that you open and extract the items into the "item" folder in the program directory.  (example:  You download clothing pieces.  You open the file and extract the files to something like: C:\username\programfiles\sims\gamedata\c...

It makes me wonder if, even though the "file association" is messed up, if the files download correctly since you are getting the error "File cannot be found" instead of "file type cannot be opened".

    Suggestion:

    1.  Download the free trial of winzip.

    2.  Re-download the files (I know this sucks)

    3.  Now trying opening them (note when you download them, see what is the last 3 letters --the extension--on the files).

Will watch for any additional details.

  3. Adobe Reader = .pdf file

Which things did you download from where?

  4. Adobe must have been configured on your computer as the program associated with package files, which is the file type the game uses. Go to one of the files again and right-click on it and then go to properties. If it says it's a package or DBPF file you should be okay. If it says something else you will have to post more information about where you are getting the stuff from like the first answerer said!

As long as they are package/DBPF files and as long as you have correctly extracted them to your Downloads folder, the game will be able to read them. It doesn't really matter what program you have associated with them.
