  2. This can depend on a few things.  Depending on the DSL modem your ISP gave you, you may be able to hook both computers to the same modem.  The DSL modem my ISP gave me supports one Ethernet connection, 1 USB connection, Wireless, and HPNA networking(This uses your home's phone lines to connect two computers).  If your modem supports these, your cheapest bet would be to buy a cable to link the two computers, one by Ethernet and one by USB.

If you do not have a modem like this, you may have to purchase a network switch.  Depending on the functions, switches can be pretty inexpensive.  I have purchased one that can allow up to 5 different Ethernet cables network each other.  This allows for 4 computers sharing a single connection and only cost about $15.

Here is a link to an inexpensive switch that supports up to 4 computers with 1 internet connection for about $8: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...

And another link to a list of switches (Listed by price from Low to High): http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductLis...

However, if you are trying to connect laptops or computers without wires, you may have to spend a little more money.  If you have laptops, many new laptops today have wireless functions built in.  If yours do not, you will have to purchase a wireless networking card for your laptop.  You will also have to find out if your DSL modem supports a wireless network by itself, otherwise you may have to purchase a wireless router.  While expensive, wireless networks are worth it to many people.

    I hope this helps!
