  1. depending on your afsc or mos. take your record to the faa and they will determine what you qualify for. chances are good they will give both airframe and power-plant. they have gotten better over the last several years of working with the military.

  2. My afac is 43151 on f-16 a.b.c.d

I would first goto the faa with you training records and see what they say. If yes then I would get a test guide on the powerplant, general, airframe, and study them.  BUT you will learn A LOT MORE going to a school for it.

Just out of the mil most places will tell you to un-learn what you learn in the mil, to me this is "B S" because every A/C have the same systems basically. For me the company that I worked for wanted a A&P or 3 yrs of mil training (Boeing, Lockheed)

Oh get the FULL lic because most places will not hire you with a partial

    aviationemployment.com

  3. Depending on where you are stationed, there should be a Fed that comes around to issue the written and practical to get you your A&P.

After that, what do you want to do and what was your MOS?

  4. You may be able to take the A&P tests based strictly on your experience.  That's what I did. I had both licenses and never went to a school.

Most airlines are now requireing at least one license before they will hire you and then you are given a period of time to get the second license. The time is usuall 18 months.

Without at least one license your chance of getting a job with a major airline range from slim to none.

  5. Pls. get your license first to be at par in these trying times for the Airline world.
