I have family that came from Ireland. How would I go about finding other relatives that are still there?

Ive heard the name Gannon, Im from county meath its in the northeast of Ireland, and there are lots of families with the name Gannon, maybe you could start your search there.

Try www.ancestry.co.uk They can trace family trees in Ireland as well as the UK. Simple to use and you just have to enter someone in the familys details.

I remember hearing on an RTE radio show that the irish government is in the process of publishing all the birth and death records to teh web, i believe this will go back to late 1800's.  cannot find the site on the web but if you contact RTE they should be able to point you in the right direction.

I'd start in your country by taking the info that you have about your ancestors and looking through popular ports (if you are researching Irish ancestry in the US, you will want to try Ellis Island, Boston, and Philadelphia--my Irish ancestors all came in through Philadelphia). I have found that knowing about my ancestors' time and experiences in my country have been very important to my identity as an Irish-American, so don't neglect that part of it.

As far as looking in Ireland, you will probably be able to narrow down a county just by asking people. From there you should be able to work with local folks and churches that can help you. Depending on when the ancestors left and what was going on at the time in Ireland, there could be records of them.
