  1. Ther 5.1 is right on target for a fasting blood sugar, but the 7.6 is a bit high after two hours.

So the first thing is -- what and how much did you eat?  If you had two pounds of spaghetti and washed it down with a large milkshake, you're probably doing all right, but if you had a chicken breast, some broccoli, and unsweetened tea, that 7.6 ain't so good . . .

Ideally, your blood sugar should be below 6.5 after one hour.  If you are diabetic, then a bit higher (7.0) is more expected.

Diabetes canNOT be diagnosed from symptoms and finger stick readings. The finger stick reading is a CONTROL method, not a diagnostic one.

In order to diagnose diabetes you need blood tests from the doctors office.  The first test he should do is called A1C.  This test measures you blood sugar over the last 90 days.  A NORMAL A1C reading is between 5 and 6.  If your A1C is between 5 and 6, then you probably do not have diabetes.

If your A1C is greater than 7, the doctor will probably want a Glucose Tolerance Test.  This test is more complex, takes longer (3-4 hours), and can be a bit painful.

But the Glucose Tolerance Test wil give a definitive answer - YES or NO.  If the Glucose tolerance Test says that you are diabetic then you need to start treatment right away.

The strongest indicator of diabetes is heredity.. Does any one else on your family -- parents, grandparents, brothers and sisters, aunts and uncles -- have it?  If you have a family history then you SHOULD be checked, and contnue to be checked at your yearly physical.

But remember -- diabetes is diagnose ONLY through doctor's blood tests, not by symptoms or finger stick tests -- and not over the internet!

    Go see your doctor . . . .

  2. the 5.1 converts to 92 which is within range while the 7.6 converts to 136 and is also within range for 2 hrs post meal.  While they do not normally diagnose diabetes with a fasting reading below 126, I cannot tell you for sure as there are other methods to diagnose, plus I am not a Dr.

FYI--today my fasting number was 115 but 2hrs after breakfast I was at 97 (I did 1/2 hr of cardio) and I am a diabetic on medication

Best thing I could say is go to Dr and ask for the tests to be done (they will take some blood or make you drink a soda like drink and wait around for 2-3 hours and then take blood)

    Good luck

  3. That's normal, i did a test on my mate, who isn't diabetic, i tested her before our lunch she was like 4 something then tested her again last period of a school day and they were like 7 or 8!

    Its fine don't worry.
