Question:

I have ferrets and...?

we keep them out in a tack room (like a shed) outside because my parents can't stand the smell. We're not sure what to do with them in the winter though--we live in Connecticut, and our winters have been getting warmer, but I just want to make sure that they'll be okay.

We have two, and they cuddle up almost every night, just to be with eachother. And hanging from the top of the cage is a hammock, and they have this sleeping- bag-type thing that they carry up themselves and put in the hammock, then crawl in and cuddle up. I think that they'll be perfectly warm if worse comes to worse, but like I said, I just want to make sure.

Will they be okay?? Or do we need to bring them into the house?

  1. well, a ferret is part of the mink, and weasle family, they live and servive outdoors.but since they have been in captivity as pets for so long,

they need to go insise the house to play whenever you get the chance.

    good  luck!

  2. Hmm, maybe you should get a heat lamp for them.

  3. put a heater in there

  4. i have ALWAYS wanted one. i have chickens, and what i do is use a heatlamp, which kept them very warm. or if worse comes to worse, my friend uses bi-oder, and it kills the smell. she also cleans the cage daily, or every other day at best. good luck!

  5. Ok first of all my tack room is heated and its still not warm enough for animals to live in, especially ferrets!!!

That really isnt a good idea (personally), they are indoor animals and need to be in temperatures no more than 75 degrees F, and no less than 55 degrees F for optimal health.

I actually had the same problem with my parents not being able to handle the smell, but I switched them to a natural raw diet and THEY DONT SMELL ANYMORE AT ALL!!!! I was amazed!!! Plus not only do they not smell, they will live longer and be much more healthy than that on a kibble diet!

Its just a suggestion but maybe you should try to switch them to a raw diet before the winter to see how your parents react to the change.

If you need any help, dont hesitate to ask, I would love to help in anyway I can!!!

also here is a site that helped me switch:

    Hope this helps!!
