I'm 18 and I started to see it last week. I've seen my optometrist and he said it's normal. So far, I only have 1 dot floating around in my eyes, and I don't see it very often. What I'm asking is, will that number of floaters increase? Is it possible for me to have only 1 dot "forever" and not increasing?Because I've seen so many people have more and more floaters....

  1. personally ,i have floaters. I'm 45.i had one in my right eye for about 2yrs. then, one in my left  eye.that has been 5years ago,and I've not had anymore so far.also if you are diabetic, the doctor can tell you if they are due to diabetes.luckily, mine was not, even though I'm diabetic.they are just irritating..good luck..

  2. A normal floater is a cell that drifts around until it disapears.

You can have them thru your life time. They do go away and or you stop seeing them.

The nex kind is when you have lots of them like 50-100 and they are white or black. This is when you get to your eye DR. fast! Your young so I think you just have a normal floater.

  3. It might increase but the as time passes by, the brain itself would ignore these floaters and you will probably not notice them

  4. I have had floaters since my teens, I am in my forties now.  They are normal but can be caused by diabetes so check this out to be sure.  Floaters are normal and from what I understand are just cells.  I do have a condition with the thinning of my retinas and am waiting for them to detach or tear, one of the questions I am asked a lot is has there been an increase in the number of floaters.  So unless you see a marked increase in the number of floaters I would not worry as your brain will compenstate and you want consciously notice them.  If you suddenly see an increase go straight to your eye doctor  and have it checked out.

    Good luck.
