Ok...before everyone says i shouldnt have picked it up and taken it inside...the cat had it and i have no idea where it came from. It obviously cant fly and its just starting to get little feathers on it but its still mostly bold, its not injured and although i know i shouldnt have really, i fed it two worms because i know it shouldnt go without food for an hour. Now what do i do? My cat has an opiontment with the vet in a few hours, shall i take the baby bird to the vet? I mean...what can they do about it? My nearest RSCPA is well...hours away and the nearest wildlife centre is also hours away. So the vet seems to be the only choice. HELP!

  1. I picked up a baby robin from the street 3 years ago that was being attacked by 5 adult birds. Keep in mind that birds can live for years, so if you don't want to commit taking care of it that long you may want to look into taking it to the wildlife rescue, ask your vet if there is one that is closer. Baby birds eat a wide variety of foods, mush up fruit, bread and protein (bugs, fish food, or cat food will work) and then feed it to the baby until you can get to the pet store. They eat all the time, at least every hour or two during the day. You can get baby bird food mix from any decent sized pet store. It comes in a powder, just mix it with water and juice and use a small animal feeding syringe (also from the pet store). Follow the directions on the container, and only mix a tiny bit at a time. Also, get pond fish pellets (it has a similar protein content to bugs and worms since it's mainly ground fish) and just pop one or two of them in the baby's mouth when it opens it's mouth for food giving it some of the mix before and after the pellets to help it eat them. As it get older it will eat more pellets and less of the mix, you can keep a small bowl of the pellets add a few seeds, and another of water in it's cage. My robin weaned itself off of the mix and then just preferred to only eat the pellets, when that happens don't forget to add a little pinch of grit (also from the pet store) to the pellets. They use the grit to grind their food up since they don't have teeth. However, even now he also eats one or two small pieces of fruit such as a grape or blueberry chopped up into small pieces everyday. Also, they like to take baths (don't submerge them in water yourself) so keep a small dish of clean water in it's cage so that it can bathe as it wants to and change the water daily. Once it has it's feathers you can research into that particular birds eating habits. Good luck!

  2. You should have left it alone now the mother will smell humans and wont come back to it.  You should have just taken the cat away and left it there.  Without its mother the baby bired wont be able to fly or hunt for food so itll pretty much die

  3. Please do not feed it nuts and seeds, do not feed it hamburger, bread or milk. Never feed worms they can cause gapeworm which can be fatal. Never feed with a syringe unless you know how, Never put liquid in a babies mouth. Start with a dry dog food and soak it and mush it to the consistency of oatmeal.  Keep the baby warm, put it in something lined with paper towel or something else soft.  Cover with a towel.  If the bird has been in a cats mouth look very carefully for puncture marks or any sign of injury.  Cats carry a bacteria in their saliva that is deadly for birds.  You don't have a long window to start antibiotic treatment if it has been injured.

  4. If you don't know where the nest is you will have to take care of it. As far as the parents smelling you, that's ridiculous. Mix a little raw hamburger and milk and bread. Feed it this at room temperature. If you put it back out side it will die. I have raised many baby birds this way and they had no problems. Any one can raise a starling.

  5. get some dried grass and keep it in a bush or close to one and i would check on it about every hour

  6. If it has wounds from your cat, infection will set in quickly and the bird will die..cats carry a lot of bacteria in their saliva.  This bird needs antibiotic treatment.  Look here to see if there is a wildlife rehab in your area..click on the international link.  It is usually advised to get a baby bird back to it's parents for it's best chance of survival but being that you don't know where your cat got it from, a rehab is the next best thing.

  7. feed it nuts and any seeds that you have, if i was you i would do scientific experiments on it and possibly test stuff on it, sounds wierd but trust me i would.

dont take it to the vets, they will sue/charge you for showing an animal that is unbooked on the register, do you know its illegal!

trust me it will be fine, if it dies its not your problem!
