I have put in an old ice cream tub with a bit of water and some stones that I've washed. I have tried feeding it some fish food. Also, I want to know what type of newt it is, I live in the UK and it is Brown/Orange and it has a smooth skin. Please help!!

  1. it is soo cute can i have him to put in my grandad pond if not find someone and ask them if you can put it in their pond if they have one we had a newt and my dad found it by acidentially chopping a leg off with the spade be hes good and we still see him at my grandads pond

  2. Carefully drop him into a shady area of your property, preferably under some leaves or deep grass where he can hide. They like moist dimly lit areas. And they eat worms and insects but they are highly susceptible to chemical burns and poisoning so don't put him in your garden. It could kill him.

  3. It can't be a newt, they can't leave water or they dehydrate and die. No way could it get into your house.

It can be a sand lizard, which looks a bit like a newt.

    Edit:

That's definitely a sand lizard, look at the feet, it has claws not webbed toes and it doesn't like all that water. A newt would be swimming your guy is trying not to drown. You should let it go it is a protected species.

  4. give it to repitle island

  5. Let it go!

If you intend on keeping it as a pet, well, you will have to do some research online but I believe newts eat things like crickets and veggies, not fish food.  And it will need a better enclosure than an ice cream tub (an aquarium would be better).

  6. It is a great crested newt. It may not have a crest at the moment, because only males have crests, and only in the mating season. Put it in a shady area, preferably near a water source.

  7. Chuck it out into the garden.

  8. Assuming its native it sounds like a Smooth/Common newt, or maybe a great crested newt. have a look here to see which  http://www.herpetofauna.co.uk/identifica... but it might not be a newt since i think newts are amphibious usually found round water, it could be a lizard but that website also has native lizards on it.  Either way I'd recommend releasing it outside, its a wild animal not bred in captivity and so to take it in to captivity would be unfair to it.

  9. ow my goodness. IT ISEN'T A DINOSOUR IS IT. JUST TAKE IT OUTSIDE BABY

  10. Put it outside where it can fend for itself.... it's not a happy newt right now.
