It appears to be a young snake as it only about an A4 sheet of paper in length. What should I do with it?

  1. Haha its a grass snake... you will know if it wasnt one as the grass snake is one of the smallest in the world! if it was a forign snake you can expect it to be ten time more big.

Grass snake! just leave it, it will find its way on its own.

  2. i agree, sounds just like a grass snake, they are quite unusual to spot if you just leave it it will go back to wherever it stays.

  3. If it has no markings its probably a grass snake. leave it alone.

  4. How do you even know it's a snake? Sounds like a slow-worm to me. 'Slow worms' aren't snakes at all, they're lizards.

There are only 3 species of snake native to the UK: -

    Grass snake <>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grass_snake...

    European Adder <>http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vipera_beru...

    Smooth snake <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coronella_a...

What you have there definitely sounds like a slow worm to me.

  5. It's a slow worm.  They eat slugs.  They don't bite and they are completely harmless.

  6. How do you know it's young?? are you in UK? if so it's probably harmless. . . xr

  7. if you are in the uk it could be a grass snake but it may be a slow worm especially as it is silver/brown in colour. a slow worm is actually a legless lizard. slow worms and snakes are protected by law as are other wildlife. leave it where it is as they are harmless

  8. depends

there are 4 reptiles it could be (assuming its a naturalised species and not an escapee pet)

    an adder (poisonous)

    a grass snake

    a smooth snake (very unlikely)

    a slowworm

Id guess its a juvenile grass snake.. the distinctive markings of an adder are the diamond pattern on its back

  9. if you are in Britain it sounds like you have found a slow worm, they are a legless lizard and completely harmless, just put it back in your garden and let it go on its way, it will keep your garden free from slugs snails and other annoying bugs you really don't want around your plants, it is a gardeners friend, they are protected so unfortunately you can not keep it

  10. It sounds like a grass snake so it's harmless however it might be an exotic one that's escaped from someone's house. Take it to the vets this morning and they'll be able to tell you.

  11. If you are in the UK, chances are that it is harmless.  Leave it alone would be my advice.  Generally you don't see snakes around as they feel/hear you coming and dart off.  Maybe it was just basking.

It is likely to be a grass snake.  It could possibly be a slow worm (although that's not a snake).  You should be able to tell by looking at its tail if nothing else.  The slow worm tail is a lot more blunt than a snakes.

  12. It sounds like it is a D.K snake. Or brown snake. They are typically small snakes and grow only about 5 inches long. They hunt in patches of grass and mostly found everywhere in the Earth. They are harmless. You should let it go, and let it live its life.

  14. If you're in England it sounds like a grass snake and no it wont do you any harm.

  15. If you are in the UK it sounds like a slow worm, only the Adder is poisonous here and is also very rare....please don't hurt it!

  16. leave it be it will soon bugger off

  17. If you're in the UK, it's more than likely harmless. But jus to be sure you can phone the RSPCA and they'll come down n take a look n may be take it away.

  18. Possibly and more than likey, a slow worm. A harmless legless lizard. There is still a possibility of an snake, which goes by the name of, The smooth snake. Again totally harmless.

  19. Sounds like a harmless slow worm to me. Just leave it.

  20. If you are in Britain, it will be a slow- worm. It is not a snake, but a legless lizard. They are harmless, and you should return it to the wild immediately. x*x

  21. Looks a bit like an elongated, legless lizard, right? It's a slow-worm. completely harmless except to slugs etc.

The grass-snake, equally as harmless, has a distinctive white/cream/yellow collar around its neck.

Both are good friends to have in the garden.

  22. All snakes eat pests! So if you want more pests then remove it!
