I have found three brown recluse spiders in my house today. How do I get rid of them? Can I use foggers?

I live in central Missouri, and yes it WAS a brown recluse. I brought it to my neighbor whose kid is a spider fanatic and she said it was. I then brought it to a local harware/farm store Orschelin's and they said it was. I then looked it up online just to make sure, and it looked identical to the pictures. Growing up I was always told beware of black spiders with red hourglasses and brown spiders with fiddles. The fiddle one always stuck in my head because my dad plays the fiddle and did so a lot when I was younger.

I have 2 very young children and it is a very old house. We are renting and the landlord won't fumigate it himself or hire one to do it. These were very large adult recluses, and I went to the store today and bought Raid Deep Reach Concentrated Formula foggers. It says they kill spiders, houseflies, and like 30 other insects. I am currently keeping my sons with their grandmother and am planning on fumigating the house in the morning (I'm at my mom's too). Will it work?

  1. Many people find spiders repulsive and scary, yet the majority of spiders are harmless and beneficial. Only four kinds of spiders are known to cause health problems in the U.S.

Most spider problems can be solved without the use of chemicals. The first, and perhaps best, suggested controls are mechanical. Inspect door and window casings in the house for closeness of fit. Repair holes large enough to admit spiders. Other areas to inspect include entry points of water pipes and electrical lines. Caulk any cracks and other small openings.

  2. NO...I almost lost my right leg due to Brown Recluse infestation in my house.  It took nine months of medical care to save it. I had my house fumigated and the exterminator found a huge nest in my attic.  We moved out for two weeks and when I returned, I had to clean every nook and cranny, shake out all of our shoes and clothes to make sure there were no more spiders.  Please call an exterminator if you can...the bite almost killed me and that was after going to the ER.

  3. NO!  Foggers and other pesticides do not work because it kills other spiders and insects and that's what the recluse feeds off of, so they actually like pesticides.

Research has found the most effective way of reducing the population is through sticky traps.

I am a Brown Recluse Bite victim, bit in April and still dealing with it, but the first aid kit and sticky traps on the following site was a MIRACLE:  http://www.brown-recluse.com

The above site purchase the sticky traps and it wouldn't hurt to have  a first aid kit on hand, they work WONDERS, trust me, I'm usuing on my recluse bite now and it's working...1 wk in the hospital and 6 different antibiotics since April, that didn't work, but this stuff is!

The traps are cheap, buy them now, I have them all over my garage and they work GREAT!

  4. My mom and sister got bit by one it wont kill you but it dose deystore your tisue.

My tip is if you can do this safley find a container put them inside it make sure youre wearing cloves that protect you that way if the bite the only get cloves and not you.
