I have fruit flies, gnats or something, and i have to feed my animals, what to do?

i have two animals, a millipede and a tarantula, but i brought in a watermelon a couple days ago anow have annoying little flies around the house, they keep eating off my animals food, thats how i know thier living or repopulating or whatever, i have fruit for my millepede and for two days didnt give him fruit thinking they wouldnt go after the lettuce and potatoe, but they did , i dont know how to get rid of them, and i still have to feed my animals what should i do? i have a young child so im not looking to spray anything, unless its safe. thanks for your time and answers.

You need to remove all of the fruit in the area, because they keep reproducing because there is a food supply. Cut it off for at least 12 hrs and then clean everything. Then after 12 hrs you can feed your pets. This should help get rid of any eggs they might have laid. Good luck with the pests!
