  1. It shouldn't.  Its something that is not your fault and you did not cause it.  Call you insurance person and ask, they will tell you.

  2. I think anytime there is a claim made your rate goes up.  Ask around, maybe you might find someone who knows how yoou can get it fixed locally for a good price and wont have to involve your insurance at all.

  3. Probably not, but the real issue is that the cost of replacing the windshield is probably less than your deductible.  If it costs $300 to replace the windshield and your deductible is $500, then there's not point in making a claim.

  4. No.  Rates are more affected by moving violations and in this current time, credit rating!

My policy allows a new windshield each year.  I live in an area that gets a lot of hail!

  5. No, because glass is covered under comprehensive.

Even if your rates would go up, why not use the insurance you pay for?  Why even have insurance if you won't/don't use it?

  6. Windshield damage that isn't caused by an collision is covered under your comprehensive coverage.  You will have to pay your deductible to the glass repair facility to have it done, so if you have a high deductible, your insurance company may not foot any of the bill.  However, comprehensive claims do not effect your insurance rate, for example: a collision with an animal or someone vandalizing your car.  So if your deductible is low then go ahead and file a claim.

    Hope this helps!
