I have glasses spontaneously shattering in my house. It's always when no one is in the room. Any thoughts?

I live with my husband and 2 children and 3 dogs. I really thought the first 2 episodes were them doing things and just not wanting to tell me. The first one was a glass candle holder-similar to a hurricane glass that was sitting on the table. No one was near it and it busted from the bottom. I have 2 of these and the other one is fine, they were less than 12 inches apart. The other one was a juice glass that was sitting on the counter. The one this morning was a glass jar with a glass lid that I store scarves in. The lid was shattered-with pieces of glass all over the room and the jar still intact. My perfume bottle, a pic frame, and a glass diffuser were all sitting beside it and they are also fine. Weird!! Can't find anything online except about tempered glass, which these aren't. Hope that helps!!

  1. How often does this happen?  Are you the only person who lives there?  Do you have pets?  Have you ever witnessed these events occurring?  What kind of glasses?  What is in the glasses?

Without more information no one can offer you any sort of answer.

  2. We need more information. Where are the glasses when they shatter? Do they fall from a shelf? Do they shatter just sitting on the shelf..or in your hand? Does it happen when you take them out of the dishwasher? Please tell more. Thanks.

Edit...Thanks for the extra info. Are you sure that no one in the other parts of the house weren't jumping around. I know that sometimes if you just walk heavy..sometimes thing will gradually move and eventually fall off . (just an idea) (or maybe even if a door is slammed hard)

  3. A change in the atmospheric pressure could cause this.  Some other causes maybe the glasses being by heat or there may be a strong vibration in the ground that could cause the glass to spontaneously break.

  4. I think we would all benefit from some more details.

There are so many answers that we can't possibly analyze anything to give you any opinionated or substantiated answer, and anyone who does is just blowing smoke.

  5. While living in Arizona in 1997, I walked through the kitchen and people saw the glass jump out from the middle of the dish-drainer.  Just the other day my friend walked into the kitchen and the phone book flew out from where it sat, and dropped straight down onto the floor.  With out disturbing everything stacked on it.  TWO girls talking, smash?

  6. might be a poltergeist

  7. I think I might have a look at ways of detecting high-frequency noise before I went much further in assuming anything.

Having a lot of strangers poking around taking pictures and recording wouldn't appeal to me much.  Particularly strangers who are attracted to the idea of investigating paranormal events.

Looking for a non-paranormal phenomenon as an explanation first seems prudent.

  8. Well,,it sounds like you might have a mischievous spirit.  Take control, that's your house.  when it happens, "tell them to stop, that is your house not theirs!" Tell them you will not tolerate it and you want them to leave.

    Hope that helps

  9. Something similar happened with my parents.  One day they discovered that a measuring cup shattered that was in a closed cupboard.  They have no idea why it happened and they did not actually hear it happen.

  10. Where are you setting the glasses? Near heat? That could be the problem.

  11. Sounds like you have some paranormal activity going on. I'm sure you have investigated to see if there is any obvious reasons. You may want to contact someone with some experience in the paranormal to help you understand what is going on, and what , if anything, needs to be done.

  12. I think that the other people have asked good questions, but I would say, MOVE.

And stop playing those Memorex opera tapes!!!

  13. Changes in heat, vibrations, and high-pitched noises can cause this.  Have you ruled all of these possibilities out?  How?
