It tasted of corn flour mixed with water! Are there different types of soymilk or do they all taste the same?

  1. If you are going to use it as milk in recipes that will be OK  you're not used to it and probably never will like it plain

  2. Comparing various brands and types of soy milk can be like comparing a milkshake with tofu water.

If you want some real help you should definitely tell us what brand/variety you tried.

  3. I don't like regular soymilk...try the vanilla..it's like a light tasting vanilla shake.

  4. For drinking you want vanilla flavored soy milk. The unflavored stuff shouldn't of tasted like corn flour, so I don't understand that. It has more of a nutty taste.

BTW: all the non-dairy creamers everyone uses are soy bassed.

  5. Also, if the Vanilla flavoured Silk isn't sweet enough for you, there is now Very Vanilla flavour that comes in a purple container. I wouldn't put it in cereal because it's so sweet, but I found it's really good for making vegan hot chocolate =)

  6. I have been having the same problem. I want to go vegan but I really like milk. I tried plain silk milk but couldn't stand it. Since then I have been kinda scared to try any other types of soy milk.

  7. Yes they do !!!!

  8. I like Silk vanilla or Silk chocolate myself...

Edensoy plain would be more for mashed potatoes than for drinking, although some people might like a soymilk with less sweetener in it.

  9. I am getting used to soymilk myself right now.  I only use it on my cereal though.  I started with vanilla Silk and I really didn't like it much, so I tried vanilla 8th continent, and I like it better.  I try not to use more than I need to just to wet the cereal.

  10. try different flavored soy milk...like chocolate or vanilla. chocolate is my favorite...it tastes like a shake. and not all brands are the same. Silk is the best.

  11. Try flavored soy milk for drinking. They are much better. Silk is great they have vanilla, chocolate, and even a banana flavored soy milk. Rice milk is really good too, tends to be a little thinner than soy milk and tastes sweeter in my opinion. Almond milk is great if you can find it. And of course there is always coconut milk. The powdered stuff is probably plain and is generally best for cooking/baking. I personally like the taste of plain soy milk but everyone is different.

  12. I started with rice milk, moved on to vanilla soy milk, and eventually ended up drinking plain soy milk.

When you are trying to get used to soy milk or rice milk, it is best to just eat it on your cereal for a few weeks, bake with it, and have it in your coffee...

When I drink it in a glass I have it with strawberry syrup.  I have been drinking it for 2 years and I still do...

It will just take some time to get used to.  Just remember that soy milk doesn't have any pus, blood, or f***s:)  It has less fat, less calories, and buying it doesn't support the veal industry.

  13. goats milk is lovely and creamy if not buy a can of evaporated milk 1 can to 2 pints of cold water.and strir

  14. No, there are taste variances among the brands, but Silk is the best tasting.  Don't get rid of the soy milk you have--just use it for cooking/baking.  I use regular soy milk for cereal, but that's because I just use it to dampen the stuff.

If you still don't like the taste, try rice milk, almond milk, oat milk, or hemp milk.  I have to say I HATED the hemp milk, though.

  15. I've been thinking about trying rice milk myself. I have the same problem as you. I have tried forcing myself to drink soy milk on many occasions and it's just not going to happen. you might give the rice milk a try.

  16. What about rice milk...

  17. there are multiple brands, some with different flavor Silk is supposed to be one of the closer-to-dairy ones.  There is also rice milk, which some people like.

my personal view is if you don't like it... guess you are going to live without dairy-substitues if you want to go dairy-free and don't like soy milk

  18. Try vanilla or chocolate - they aren't as sour as plain.  8th Continent is MUCH better than Silk too.....

  19. Hi, I hated the taste of soya milk when I first tried it!  It does take a bit of getting used to, I think its because it tastes so much different from cows milk.

All the different brands vary in taste, maybe try a flavoured one next until your taste buds get used to it!

I always use Alpro Soya I find its one of the more pleasant tasting ones! Its lovely on cereals and in tea, and in coffee when its warmed and the coffee is made with all milk!

  20. No, they don't all taste the same. I've tried some that taste awful and some that taste delicious. Silk Soymilk generally is considered good tasting, particularly if you get the "Very Vanilla".

Also, there's many other options besides soymilk. There's rice milk (which I am not a fan of, but some people really like), there's almond milk, and hemp milk (both of which taste pretty good.)

  21. There's lots of different brands and flavors. If you just got plain soymilk, that's probably why you hated it. The vanilla and chocolate flavors are much better. You could also try rice milk, almond milk, etc. Vanilla almond milk is my favorite

  22. Rice milk is good...

Buy Silk..I buy the plain one & usually I drink it as it is. Sometimes I add in a bit of sugar. Sometimes I blend it with blueberries or strawberries or apples or bananas, etc & make a smoothie...at the end add some honey or sugar if you want--this is so that you don't have to throw it away (if you haven't already)

  23. It sounds like you got the plain flavored one.  Plain is good for recipes, but for drinking and using with cereal, you should try the vanilla.  Chocolate is pretty d**n good too, but definitely get the vanilla.  If you have already tried that one, and didn't like it, that's cool.  You don't HAVE to drink soymilk.
