current form.
The 31-year-old cricketer was always considered to be an extremely talented batsman, being tipped for greatness; however, the Jamaican could not live up to the expectations because of issues with form and fitness.
In 2008, the stylish batsman was handed over a two-year ban from international cricket due to his alleged links with bookmakers. Samuels returned to international cricket last year and has been a permanent member of the West Indian
team in the game’s all three departments.
The middle-order batsman has been doing exceedingly well in Test cricket as well as in the shorter versions, averaging over 50 runs per innings since his comeback in the five-day format.
The hard-hitting batsman took his side out of trouble in the final of the World T20 at Colombo, scoring a 56-ball 78, which included three boundaries and six huge hits out of the park.
Samuels claims to be mentally very strong, which is the reason why he has been able to make a successful return at the game’s ultimate stage.
"The career has been up and down," Samuels said. "There have been a lot of tough times. I dealt with them in simple ways and tried to let them pass. Being under pressure on a cricket field is nothing compared to what I've been through
off the field.”
The all-rounder was named as the Player of the Match in the final because of an exceptional innings under trying circumstances and an economical spell with the ball.
Samuels thanked all the supporters who backed him during his exile from international cricket.
“I'm not someone that will ever give up. I never say die. The person that I am deep down inside is the reason why I am still here playing cricket. I have a family that believes in me. If outsiders don't, it doesn't really matter to
me," said the talented cricketer.
