I have got a xbox 360 arcade without live whats a must have to play online?

i dont want starter kit , because i dont want a headphone and extras.can i get the must have items separately instead of the starter kit if yes how much

a gold subscription to xbox live and a working connection to the internet.  xbox live cost around 60$ a year and you already have internet.
