I use silver dip by goddards to clean my silver  it cleans off tarnish like magic

take some washing soda in warm water.

drop some aluminium foil in the bottom of the dish

then drop the ring onto the foil for 4 seconds you will see it fizz lightly and the black vanish and it return to shiny.

works with almost all metal staining and corrosion. and does not harm the ring but reduces the oxidation as the expense of the aluminium foil

100% safe as used in antique shops on all silver and pewter and gold ware!

Spray paint it silver, and its probably a cheap crappy ring anyway, thats why it went black

cover it in brown sauce and leave it soaking overnight...

that should do the trick...it will burn off the oxidised metal...

It is only silver oxide on the surface.  It should polish off with a good metal polish.

A very mild acid would also bring it back to silver (like some propietry cleaners, Do the penny test !)
