I have went to the website recommeded but I have another question. I live in Montana and right now I am trying to find out how I go about getting my 3 children started on home schooling, because we live 32 miles from town and 2 miles from nearest neighbor and they have already missed 2 weeks of school due to the weather. If you have any suggestions on how I can get them started in homeschooling it would be greatly appreciated.

  1. Go to this web site.

    http://www.mtche.org/

There is also a list of local home school coordinators that may be able to help you get connected with other families in your area.

Montana is having it's yearly home school convention in Billings in June.

    http://montanahomeschoolconvention.com/

To get started all you have to do is notify your County Superintenedent of schools of your intent to home school, get the books you plan on using; there are many choices, and set a schedule that would fit your family best.

If you are just starting out stick with the basic math, Language arts, and reading for now, and use the library for all other books, or the Internet.

A very good and inexpensive complete curriculum is CLP

    http://ebiz.netopia.com/clpress/

Here are several web sites to start out with.

These sites do require a $20.00 yearly fee to have full use of all their printable materials, but it is well worth it.

You can check them out for free, but it is a lot of curriculum in one place.

    FREE HOME SCHOOL CURRICULUM.

    http://www.booksamaritan.com/

  2. There are satellite programs that you can get. They have teachers on TV, who teach your child live while private schools call in and answer questions and interact. It's really cool.

This is how i did my schooling.

I think it's run through Bob Jones University, very informative.

e-mail me at elenaishere@yahoo.com and I will have my mom try and contact you about how to get started with home-schooling your child.

  3. I bet the library has the needed infomation

  4. Here are a couple of curricula to look at. These might help. While you look at them think about what your children are like. Think of how they truly learn. What are there interests and what kind of education you want them to have (mainly Religious or secular).

Sonlight sets up everything you need to start. Lesson plans, worksheets the whole nine yards. It cost us just under 900.00 to order the 3+4 th grade products. If you order for instance core 3+4 like I did you can use it for 2 years and then use it again for the next child. Or you could if you are teaching 2 age groups say a 3rd and a Kindergärtner. The younger can sit in on the lessons and you can kind of dumb down the program for him and when he is a bit older go back to the curriculum you missed. It is set up for a wide variety of ages. Core 1+2 is set up for ages 5-9. The site is www.sonlight.com

For Math look at Saxon, Singapore, Horizons, and Math U See. We use Math U See and we love it. But your kids may do better with something else.

Science is Apologia and I think probably the most popular for home schoolers. It gives Science from a creation stand point but also teaches evolution in older grades.

Also look into a home school group in your area. They might have one. If they do find out if they have a Co-Op. Co-Op is a group of families that bring their talents together and teach what they know best. We have a lady from Spain who teaches Spanish. That way you aren't in the house and everyone gets to socialize a bit (even you). All that is usually asked is a small enrollment fee, supplies or the price of the supplies, and you to volunteer while your kids are in classes.  It could be anything from helping in the class and clean up to watching the babies so other moms can help out else where.

  5. Lake County Superintendent of Schools Homeschool Page

Montana State Law [MCA 20-5-109(5)] requires the parent or legal guardian choosing to home school, to sign up annually with their County Superintendent of Schools.

    http://www.lakecounty-mt.org/schools/hom...

    hope that helps.

I loved homeschooling my kids. My oldest is now 25 and will have her earned her Masters degree this June.

  6. Since you already know your state's laws, read over these homeschooling methods and see which one fits your family, then start looking for curriculum.  There are suggestions on this website as well:

    http://www.successful-homeschooling.com/...

To get different people's opinions about different programs, go to:

    http://www.homeschoolreviews.com

It is a lot of information to take in at once, but you will get the hang of it.  Good luck!

  7. How old they are makes a difference.  First of all, relax.  Second of all, turn off the TV and videogames and leave them off.  Can they read?  If so they should read as much as possible if they like it.  If they can't, read to them.  If they are young, they should play and pretend a lot.  Play lots of board games, bake, count change, build stuff.  Play outside as much as possible no matter how old they are.  Enjoy their company and they will be more pleasant.

Read about different methods of schooling online- Charlotte Mason, and Waldorf methods are what I do.

You do not have to spend a zillion dollars on curricula, your kids may not even like them, and then you paid a zillion dollars for a war.  There are so many free resources out there.  I hope you can get to the library, but if not do not worry.  There is so much time spent lining up and disciplining during school, that your kids can get an excellent education from you (someone who loves them) in less than half the time they would spend at school.

If you keep the TV and vidieogames off, most everything you do is school.

    Best of luck.
