  1. Moss grows more on a roof that is warmer due to lack of loft insulation. Maybe the other houses have better insulation than yours.

With the cost of energy, it's worth checking and adding more insulation if it's a bit thin.

  2. It sounds like you may have water damage.

  3. Not sure, but moss goes on damp surfaces - when once it gets a hold, it holds onto water, so gets worse. I wouldn't bother about it unless water is getting through the slates.

If it has to come off, pressure wash it, don't scrape.

  4. Could be worse. It may Have been Kate Moss!

  5. maybe to much shade on your house?

  6. Some spores have just taken hold there.

It doesn't mean your house is damp.

Hardware stores sell moss killer which you have to brush in on a dry day.

    Bleach kills it too.

I suggest you get stuck in before winter sets in as it can really take off when the weather gets damp.

  7. Your cottage has been cursed.

  8. This generally happens in a moist climate.

Just spray some copper solution and this will get rid of it.

You can get it at Home Depot, Lowes or a landscape supply center.

  9. Usually this means your "slates" are part asbestos and the top is pitted allowing algae to form from spores from nearby trees. It is always on the leeward side of the roof.It just needs cleaning with a concentrate of bleach and pressure washing or if you get a few fine days it may be possible to just sweep offf the dead moss with a brush after using the concentrate To prevent it returning string a length of copper wire along the ridge tile edge on the affected side
