I have had a syrian hamster for 3 months or so and i have never seen her take a proper drink

i put fresh water in every 2 days with that nutrient thingy, and the water bottle doesnt seem to be depleated. i once left it for a week and it didnt look like much was gone, i have seen her drink when i place the bottle near her mouth, but do hamsters generally not drink alot? otherwise she is perfectly health, as she has been checked over by the vet.

Don't panic, they are tiny creatures so they don't drink very much, and they also descend from the wild syrian hamster which lives in the desert, s they don't really need a lot of water. Don't worry, she's fine. She is getting enough, if she wasn't, within three months she would be dead.  know that sounds really morbid, so sorry!

A quick way to do a test to see if an animal is dehydrated is to gently pinch the skin at the back of the neck, or along the back. When you let go, the skin should relax back into position. If it stays rigid or takes a long time to go down then the animal is dehydrated.

i hardly ever see my hamster drink, and i have had her nearly a year, so she must be drinking because she would be dead by now if she hadnt. i think they drink more at night because this is when they are more active. i probably looks as if she hasnt drank much becuase they are only small so they dont drink much

I have two aren't they cute!

One has a bottle and a bowl and he uses the bowl more, I think this is because his bottom teeth are slightly too long and and finds it difficult to push the metal ball back. but we give him the choice of both and regularly see him drinking. The other is fine with his bottle.

Also they tend to come out late at night and probably do most of their drinking then, very rarely will they come out in the day to drink. I mean how often do we venture out of bed at night to keep getting a drink lolx

give her time and use a bowl to as well to see if she prefers that, you'll soon know how much water she takes - love to you both x
