I am facing being homeless and may have to give her away if I don't gain employment very soon.

Can cats adapt to new people? Will I do her permanent harm emotionally by giving her away? I am so sad about this and if I have to do it, I plan to give her to a friend along with my last bit of money to go towards her care, and maybe someday I will be able to take care of her again.

This may all sound melodramatic, but she was my late fiance's cat, and since she died I have taken care of this cat and she is my only living link to her that I have in my life.

Please let me know whether you think my cat will somehow understand my having to give her up if I have to.

  1. Oh, dude i'm so sorry for that. that must be horrible. Well, if i was ever in that situation then I would give her to a trusted friend who would take great care of her. i think you can still visit her. Just make sure she's okay with who your leaving her with. Depending on the cat, they may or may not get along with people. She's gotta trust your friend. again i'm sorry that your in that situation and about your fiance and i hope you can find a good job. I hope this link will help.

    Good Luck:]

  2. your cat will do fine...and if she is with a friend you can stop and say hello sometime...also as you suggested one day soon you may be able to reunite with her...

sorry for your time of trouble...I went through something like that several years ago and I had five cats and five dogs and nineteen turtles & tortoises...

today I have the pup from my favorite dog ever and I am still sad about that past but am living in the future now so it will get better for you...

keep your eye on the prize to push you to do good things for yourself...that you cat can come home soon when you get it  back together...

    your in my prayers...

  3. Does your cat know your friend? If she does it may be a little easier for her.

Cats have been known to form "pair bonds" with their owners-- basically being attached to one human in particular.

This is how my cat, Leo, is with me. (As a matter of fact I've had him for almost nine years as well so I know how attached you are to Minnie.) Out of my family of five he always follows me around and sleeps with me at night-- I even brought him with me when I moved out because of it.

It might be hard on her, but going to someone she already knows is better than being given to a complete stranger. And this way you could still visit her.

It may be hard for her to adapt, but if she already knows your friend it could be less of an issue for her. If your friend treats her with great care and pays special attention to her as she adjusts to her new home, she should be fine.

If you can visit her at your friend's house it would be even better-- it would give the cat time to get used to you being around less and less.

  4. Perhaps you can put her in foster care until you can get back on your feet.

That is probably the best case scenario.

How unfortunate but that is happening everywhere in the USA do to many foreclosures.

Why don't you sell your computer first?

    !Good luck!
