  1. True strep throat is causes by a Streptococcus bacteria that should respond to antibiotics within 2-3 days, with you usually starting to feel better in that time frame.  If you haven't been taking your antibiotics for that long, you may be just getting ready to take a leap for the better.  If it's been more than 48 hours and you are seeing no improvement at all, then it's time to see the doctor again.  What you have may be a viral illness, in which case the antibiotics won't help with that.  There are a multitude of viral infections that can give you one nasty sore throat, and it won't get better that quickly.  If this is the case, about all you can do is stay in bed, drink lots of fluids, take Tylenol or Motrin, and wait it out.  A virus will usually last 10 days to 2 weeks, and gradually get better as you get closer to that limit.  At this point, it really depends on how long you've actually been taking those antibiotics.  If it's been for four days, then it's time to call on the doctor for a recheck.  If it's been less, then you can wait another day and see what happens.  Meanwhile, drink until your molars float.  Moist throats tend to hurt less.
